2017 Victorian Waste Education Conference – Feature Speaker: Russel Traher

We are pleased to confirm Russel Traher, Acting Director Wildlife Conservation and Science at Zoos Victoria as a Feature Speaker at the 2017 Victorian Waste Education Conference.

As acting Director of Wildlife Conservation and Science at Zoos Victoria, Russel has helped shape the zoo’s 20 year vision and transform the culture. He has a passion to support and motivate staff to ensure no terrestrial vertebrate species in Victoria goes extinct.

Russel has led the Life Science Departments at Werribee Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary and played a leading role with the development and delivery of many of Zoos Victoria’s Fighting Extinction captive breeding programs. He has facilitated the creation and delivery of cleverly designed conservation campaigns which exploit social science tools and resulted in thousands of zoo visitors taking action for wildlife.

Russel will be sharing the story of the strategic transformation of Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee Open Range Zoo, and how Zoos Victoria engages with the community to gain ongoing campaign support.
