Council workshops to inform statewide recycling procurement
Councils across Victoria participated in online workshops to help us understand their recycling services needs and infrastructure requirements as part of a statewide procurement project.
Councils reported they want a procurement that delivered value, more competition and is fit for purpose. Greater transparency, jobs and more local resource recovery were also among the outcomes councils expected from the procurement.
We’re now analysing the feedback from councils to inform our assessment of the different infrastructure options that may come as a result of the procurement.
The expertise and feedback we’ve received from councils will be incorporated into the market research and analysis already underway.
MWRRG is collaborating with all six regional waste and resource recovery groups to deliver facilities for the processing of kerbside recycling, with capacity and security for the future.
Our strategic procurement approach offers significant volumes of waste and recycling to the market, delivering economies of scale and greater certainty for industry.
By bringing councils together, we’re able to create a more competitive market environment for existing and new industry participants and leverage greater value for councils which can be passed on to your community. This will help drive investment and transparency, open the market to more players and reduce our reliance on international markets.
The procurement is funded by the Recycling Industry Strategic Plan and will help deliver recycling infrastructure and household recycling reform—objectives of Recycling Victoria.
