Landfill services procurement
MWRRG currently manages four contracts for the supply of landfill services and infrastructure across metropolitan Melbourne on behalf of 28 councils.
These contracts, which are in place until 2021, are for the safe disposal of council residual waste - i.e. waste that cannot be recycled or recovered.
These group contracts require the landfill disposal facilities to operate at ‘best practice’ level - all requirements of Environment Protection Authority Victoria are met and the daily operations (including maintenance and security) are safe and efficient.
These four landfills accept approximately 900,000 tonnes of household waste per year.
MWRRG and participating councils have begun a procurement process to replace the existing landfill contracts. The procurement process is expected to be completed by 2020, with new contracts commencing in 2021.
