Landfill services procurement

MWRRG currently manages five contracts for the supply of landfill services and infrastructure on behalf of 30 metropolitan Melbourne councils.

Landfill is an important part of managing Melbourne’s waste which cannot be removed from the waste stream through avoidance, reuse, recycling or advanced waste processing.

These contracts, are for the safe disposal of household residual waste—waste that cannot be recycled or recovered.

This collaborative contract requires the landfill disposal facilities to operate at best practice. This means all requirements of Environment Protection Authority Victoria must be met and the daily operations (including maintenance and security) must be safe and efficient.

MWRRG is working with councils to reduce waste to landfill through food and green waste recycling, a statewide collaborative procurement for commingled recycling and procurement of an advanced waste processing facility.
